The Thursday night schedule will not change, we meet at 19:00, in the Nixon Building Gym, Work Point Barracks. We have created a Facebook 'group' to distribute band communications.

Legion tour to follow: ANAVETS (Sidney), bus to Brittania, bus to Pro Pat, bus to Esquimalt. Please arrange your own transport to Sidney - the bus will run from Sidney through the rest of the tour, but you will need transport home from Esquimalt.

(Band members will be at Smitty's for breakfast at 9'ish.)

Job well done last Sunday with the Sidney Concert Band and our friends with the Saanich Peninsula Pipe Band.

We have a very high profile event on Saturday – leading the Squadron to excersise their Freedom of the City of Sidney. We will have a regular practise this week to finalize our performance and an opportunity to rehearse with the Squadron on Friday. We will also be included in the celebrations after the parade on Saturday. The Battle of Britain Remembrance has been downgraded from the previous short parade to a church service and remembrance ceremony.

Thursday 16th Sep – regular practise, Nixon Bldg gym, Work Point

Friday 17th Sep – Freedom of the City drill rehearsal, 13:00, at the Squadron. Work dress or civvie’s as appropriate. The parade sequence will be run through, please attend if possible.

Saturday 18th Sep – Freedom of the City of Sidney parade. Assemble at the Squadron at 08:30, board bus at 09:15. Dress is CO’s parade (spats, hose tops, horse-hair , belt and medals). Reception at the Sidney ANAVETS and then back to the Squadron.

Sunday 19th Sep – Battle of Britain Church parade. Our only official duty is to provide a piper for the lament. The P/M will take this on but would like anyone available to attend the service to show the blue. Dress is Church Parade (DEU, lovat hose, medals).

Thanks to the drum corp for providing assistance to Saanich Penninsula for the English Car event at Fort Rodd Hill – much appreciated by Rod and the Saan Pen band that you were out on a such lovely Highland day.

Wednesday, Nov 11th - Base Transport 08:15 for departure to Sidney, or meet at Mary Winspear 10:15. Dress - DEU, Lovat Hose, medals & poppy. Ceremonies in Sidney followed by a visit to various Legions to play for the vets.

Thursday, Nov 12th - with the Olympic Torch Relay, the BC Lions Salute to the Veterans, the Armistice Concert with the Sidney Concert Band and Remembrance Day behind us, the P/M has given us the night off! Next practise - sticks and chanters, Tuesday 17th Nov, at the portables.

Maximum attendance for all this week, as we will be performing at the request of our new Honorary Colonel.

Victoria Highland Games, 2009

We were ready, but commitments by our serving

members prevented us from entering the band for

competition (half the drum corp is off pirate hunting).

The remaining drum corp and pipers joined the massed

band for the opening / closing ceremony.

Piper Ringrose entered the Grade 5 individual competition, and brought the band back Gold and Silver medals, and the Grade 5 Aggregate trophy. He would like to thank the band for all their help and encouragement.

The Victoria Highland Games will be held May 16-17, 2009. Heavy events on the Saturday, Piping and Drumming on the Sunday. The Squadron band will be joining the massed band for the opening and closing ceremonies on Sunday.
